Public Notice – Avian Influenza (HPAI) In Virginia

Public Notice:

On Sunday, October 16, 2022, the Clarksville Police Department was made aware of several vulture/buzzard carcasses in town at two of their common roosting places.  After consulting with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, it is believed that these birds died as a result of the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenzas (HPAI) as many cases have been seen throughout the Commonwealth.  The police department and town employees retrieved these carcasses and properly disposed of them following the guidance of the VA DWR.

Clarksville Police Department and the Town of Clarksville recommends not handling any bird carcasses and to keep your pets and poultry away from the same.  If you do encounter any, maintain a safe distance and contact law enforcement.
